Easy sudoku
About 40 clues. Fill the grid so each row, column and box holds 1 to 9 once.
How to play
Fill the grid so every row, every column and every 3 by 3 box holds the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. The numbers already on the board are clues and cannot be changed.
Tap a square, then tap a number on the pad under the grid. On a computer you can also type 1 to 9, use the arrow keys to move, and press Backspace to erase. Tap Notes (or press N) to jot small pencil marks for the digits a square could be.
A number that clashes with another one in its row, column or box turns red. The timer starts with your first move and stops when the grid is complete. Your moves are saved in this browser, so you can close the page and come back.
About these puzzles
Easy puzzles keep about 40 of the 81 squares filled in. Each one can be finished using only the simplest move: a square where just one digit fits. It is a gentle place to learn the rules or to wind down.
Every puzzle is built by code, not by a person or a model. The page address holds a level and a seed number, so the same address always gives the same puzzle. Before a puzzle is shown, a solver checks that it has exactly one solution, so you never need to guess.
Tips
- Start with the digit that appears most often on the board and look for the one square in each box where it can still go.
- When a square has only one digit left that fits, write it in. When a digit fits only one square in a row, column or box, write that in too.
- On the harder levels, use Notes. Pencil in the candidates for a few squares, and look for two squares in a unit that share the same two candidates.
