Challenge minesweeper

An eight-by-eight board with twelve mines. More numbers to compare, still no guessing required.

How to play

Reveal every safe square without opening a mine. A number tells you how many mines touch that square, including diagonally. Blank squares open their neighbors automatically. Each board begins with a safe blank region already open, so you can start with the numbers instead of guessing a first move.

On a phone, choose Reveal squares to open a covered square, or Flag squares to mark and unmark suspected mines. On a computer you can click to reveal, right-click to flag, or focus the board and use arrow keys, Enter or Space, and F to flag. A flagged square stays closed until you unflag it.

The timer starts with your first reveal or flag and stops when every safe square is open, or when you hit a mine. Flags help you reason but are not required to win. Retry this puzzle resets the same board after a mistake. Your moves, flags, time and finished result stay in this browser.

About these puzzles

Minesweeper is a compact logic puzzle about counting neighboring mines. These boards range from a gentle six-by-six starter to an eight-by-eight challenge. The daily puzzle uses the standard board and changes at midnight UTC. It is shared by everyone, so you can compare a puzzle with a friend. A dated share link keeps that day’s board available later.

Every board is generated by code from its level and seed. A solver checks the visible numbers and the total mine count before a board is offered, rejecting any layout that would require a guess. The mine positions never move when you click. Next puzzle on the daily board opens standard practice; on a size page it gives a fresh fixed puzzle address.

Tips

If a number already touches that many flagged mines, all its other covered neighbors are safe. If the number needs as many mines as there are covered neighbors left, every one of those neighbors is a mine. Count diagonals too.

Compare neighboring numbers when neither is enough alone. If one set of covered neighbors sits entirely inside another, the difference in their remaining mine counts applies to the squares outside the smaller set. If you get stuck, double-check your flags before opening another square.
